On December 23, 2024, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the institution, the VIII International Scientific and Practical Conference “Problems of Theory and Practice of Forensic Expertise in the Field of Intellectual Property” (“Krainiev Readings”) was held at the Research Center for Forensic Expertise in the Field of Information Technologies and Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
This year’s conference theme was: “Comprehensive Research in the Field of Intellectual Property Expertise”.
The event was opened by the Director of the Center, Mykhailo Mozhaiev. Welcoming addresses were delivered by:

as well as other heads of expert institutions, representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Bureau of Economic Security, the Security Service of Ukraine, the bar, and international partners — Jānis Grasis, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Riga Stradiņš University (Latvia), and Serhii Semenov, Head of the Department of Cybersecurity at the Institute of Security and Informatics, University of the National Education Commission (Krakow, Poland).
The conference was attended by forensic experts, law enforcement officers, and scholars who discussed both practical and theoretical aspects of intellectual property expertise and the conduct of comprehensive research involving experts from other fields of knowledge.
The following reports were presented during the conference:
- Methodology for determining license fees and copyright royalties;
- Expertise in the field of intellectual property within complexes and as part of comprehensive forensic examinations (current practice and problematic issues);
- Protection of rights in the field of intellectual property: countering patent abuse and specifics of forensic examination of patent trolling;
- Practice of calculating material damage in cases of violation of trade secret rights;
- Current issues of solving integration tasks in the field of intellectual property and prospects for implementing competent approaches to expert training;
- Specifics of conducting comprehensive forensic military examinations and intellectual property examinations during martial law;
- Comprehensive construction-technical research and intellectual property research to determine whether project documentation is a revision of another project;
- Specifics of comprehensive commodity examination and intellectual property object examination;
- Computer programs and databases as objects of copyright in comprehensive computer-technical and intellectual property research;
- Research of UAVs in forensic computer-technical expertise.
The Head of the Western Ukrainian Branch of the Center, Artem Shcherbak, also delivered a report on the prospects for expanding and developing the Center’s activities.
The conference became an important platform for exchanging experience between specialists from various fields and discussing current issues of comprehensive research in the field of intellectual property.
